April update

April 18, 2011

A short update on the previous post:  Last week we geared up to put 1000+ objects into our read-only development site as a test.  We attempted it but ran out of disk space!!!  (Our development machine has much less allocated space than the test and production systems.)  Still, we have over 600 objects working happily so we are well pleased and we’re happy to report that the ingest process works well.

Apologies for the delay, but we now have approval from the JISC to publish our Project Plan.  It can be found at this link.

March progess

April 4, 2011

Well with Easter less than three weeks away, will we have our “read-only” site up as hoped?  I just know I shall regret saying this, but it’s looking good. We certainly shan’t have copied all the content from our old repository to the new by then, but I think there should be a working site with a non-trivial number and range of digital objects.

Our target was to have a working “read-only” site by the end of March.  Currently our development server is running a version that copes with four different content types with a number more under active development.  At the end of March we had this running and we are now iterating through a large number of design tweaks and bug fixes. In fact, working closely with MediaShelf LLC, who wrote much of the Hydrangea code, we have contributed to one or two significant improvements in the code base.

We are just now starting to flesh out the detailed planning for the next phase of work which involves the interface supporting edit and ingest.
